Dr. Taruna Aurora is well-regarded academic physician specializing in emergency and internal medicine, with over two decades of experience dedicated to clinical service, medical education, research, and administration. Since 2006, she has served as an assistant professor at VCU Health, focusing on patient care and the education of future healthcare professionals. Dr. Aurora has been instrumental in establishing the nationally recognized Observation Unit, developing clinical pathways, and integrating informatics into both clinical and administrative functions. Her work has influenced other institutions and enhanced the Emergency Medicine residency program. She played a pivotal role in founding the EM/IM residency program, she has mentored numerous residents, fostering their professional development. Her innovative clinical programs, such as ROMCOM (Remote oxygen monitoring for covid outpatient management) and the PROPER Care Virtual Clinic, address critical healthcare needs and expand educational opportunities. In her research, Dr. Aurora has focused on clinical care pathways within the observation unit, contributing to a deeper understanding of patient outcomes. Her administrative roles include significant contributions to utilization management and informatics, culminating in her promotion to Enterprise Medical Director for Utilization Management and Physician Advisor Services.
