Message from the Chair
The emergency department is the healthcare safety net of the community, and our physicians rise to the challenge regardless of the volume and acuity that come through the door.
When I began at VCU in 1996, the Department of Emergency Medicine was in its nascent days, newly established as its own department. As the department has evolved over the years, it’s become more patient-centered, with a robust quality infrastructure and a devoted team of curious, nimble physicians who challenge the status quo, adapt to the changing environment and drive the innovation that advances the field of emergency medicine. Our team’s commitment to the education of our students, residents, fellows, other learners and EMS providers is remarkable.
Working in the emergency department is incredibly humbling. We walk out of every shift knowing that everything can change in an instant, and I’m proud of our team for the dedicated and compassionate care they provide to our patients and their families.
